Andrea Smitten MScOT, PGDip Sensory Integration HCPC (OT62260)

 

Andrea is a qualified  OT licenced both in the UK & Belgium (INAMI 6-51830-10-650)who has been working in the field of Paediatric Occupational Therapy since 2010 after obtaining a BSc Hons OT degree from Lancaster University and a Masters of Science in Advanced Occupational Therapy from the University of Ulster in 2017. Prior to this she has over 15 years experience working with children in the health, social care, education and development sectors in the UK, Ireland, Canada, USA & Africa.

 

She has a special interest in developmental disability & Autism and has post graduate Diploma in Sensory Integration (Ayres SI) through the University of Ulster, in association with the University of Southern California and  The Sensory Integration Network UK & Ireland. Granting her the Advanced SI practitioner qualification to assess and deliver Ayres SI Therapy. 

 

The Advanced Practitioner qualification in Sensory Integration,  provides the option of a block of (Ayres SI) being offered, if suitable to the child, to aid in reaching treatment goals . In addition she has obtained her post graduate qualification to administer the SIPT (Sensory Integration & Praxis Test) Assessment through Western Psychological Services (WPS). Which is known within the profession as the Gold Standard Assessment in identifying sensory integration & praxis (dyspraxia) presentations.

 

She is a member of the College of Occupational Therapy, British Association of Occupational Therapists & Specialist Section: Children & Families as well as the Belgian Association of Occupational Therapists (UPE-Union Professionnelle des Ergothérapeute www.ergo-upe.be). 

 

Andrea has worked in the NHS & Education/Charity Sectors in the UK & EU along with private practice. She also mentors Masters student cohorts undertaking post graduate courses at Sheffield Hallam University, UK.
